Born in the UK and raised in Canada, Shayla was an inquisitive explorer and seeker from a young age. Full of questions about the nature of existence that no one could answer, she found herself drawn to outdoor adventures, art and creativity, and esoteric pursuits like Vedic Astrology, Ayurveda and meditation.
Over time though, she slipped into the conundrum of conventional life with a corporate job, following the norms around her and burying existential questions in the back of her mind.
Finally re-inspired after reading “Autobiography of a Yogi” and realizing that humans have much more potential than we’re bred to believe, she decided to leave her limiting lifestyle and embark on a long inner journey.
In 2009, she sold her home and worldly possessions and took off on a solo trek to India, hoping to tap into the deeper dimensions of life.
After taking various styles of yoga and meditation, and Ayurvedic courses in India for a few years with her husband (who she met in an Ashram in 2010), she was fortunate enough to come across the wisdom of self-realized yogi and mystic, Sadhguru (while on a side-trip to Uganda). That was in 2012 and that’s when her deeper transformation truly started to take shape.
After spending long periods of time at the Isha Yoga Center between 2012 and 2014, taking various courses, volunteering and experiencing many blissful moments, internal changes, and deep levels of transformation, Shayla realized she had to share these amazing tools with others.
Long story short, she trained to become an Isha Classical Hatha Yoga Teacher in 2015 through their 6 month Teacher Training Program (1750 hours). She is now delighted to be able to share these powerful well-being tools with so many others, and see them transform, and experience deeper dimensions of life as well.
Her passion for yoga and travel have made her somewhat of a gypsy yogi, so it made sense to synergize the two throughHatha Yoga Retreats, which offers people the opportunity to go deeper into their practices and embark on internal and external adventures in exotic locations like Bali.
When she’s not travelling, she manages and teaches regular sessions through Yoga Logic in Leicester, and with the Isha Yoga Centre in London and in Europe. She also holds yoga workshops in Toronto, Canada during annual visits.
Shayla is also the Editor for Align Magazine, an online yoga magazine produced by the Isha Hatha Yoga School as a resource for Classical Hatha Yoga.
From mid-February to late May 2019, Shayla will be back on the road again, doing yoga in India, and Bali. She’ll commence classes in Leicester, UK with a Surya Kriya program on the 1st and 2nd of June. If you would like to know more about her programs in 2019, please email email@example.com.
